Neighbors in a Sylmar neighborhood were startled by a loud “boom” sound Monday evening when the driver of a stolen car crashed into the cinder block wall of a home after a brief police chase.

Police began the pursuit of the Kia Forte in the parking lot of a shopping plaza at South Workman and Woodworth streets on Monday around 11:30 p.m.

The chase continued until the car crashed into the cinder block and wrought iron fence, preventing it from plowing into the house. Surveillance home video shows the crash as it happened. Tires screeching and debris are heard flying as the car plows into the wall.

There were four people in the car and two passengers fled the crash site.

One other passenger and the driver remained at the scene and according to San Fernando police, the driver was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. The other passenger who remained behind was released from police custody.
