“As the holidays approach, we want to do our utmost to give people the best possible holiday under these difficult circumstances,” said Red Cross volunteer Brandon Sherr.
On Christmas Eve, families have the choice of a traditional Dominican holiday meal of pernil with rice and beans, lasagna or vegetarian.
Botanical Square resident Emily Santos said in Spanish that she is grateful for the service provided by the Red Cross.
“So far everything has been very good. Their food is very tasty. It is always hot,” said Botanical Square resident Judith Freitas.
While Botanical Square’s manager expects electricity to be restored in the coming days, volunteers braving the frigid temperatures say they are grateful to be of service.
“I’m just glad that this holiday season we can help everyone in their time of need,” said Red Cross volunteer Dr. Myrie.
A Red Cross representative says they will continue to offer services at Botanical Square through Friday, then reassess residents’ needs and make any necessary adjustments.
