NEW YORK — The rumble of construction is music to Carol and Jack Wolf’s ears.
“My mood is grateful,” said Jack Wolf.
The retired Richmond Hill couple finally fixed the buckling sidewalk, but the path to reach that point was just as bumpy.
They had the house of their dreams and the sidewalk of their nightmares, a tripping hazard outside their front door. Jack Wolf, who wears a prosthetic leg, was unable to remove the cracks and ridges from his mobility scooter. He had to send him into the street to get around.
“This is scary for me,” he said in August.
Because the pavement was warped by a city tree, the repairs fell under the Parks Department.
The couple said they put themselves on a city waiting list for repairs in 2017.
“I don’t think we have to wait seven years,” Carol Wolf said.
From the time of CBS News New York’s first visit last November to a yield by August conditions had deteriorated further.
We pushed the city and enlisted the help of Council Member Lynn Schulman, and finally the Wolfs have their new, flat sidewalk.
“It’s a very cheerful view,” said Jack Wolf.
