The Russian military says the new medium-range missile it fired at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro could hit targets across Europe.

“Based on the stated tasks and range of this weapon, it can attack targets across Europe, which distinguishes it from other types of high-precision long-range weapons,” said Sergei Karakayev, head of Russia’s Strategic Missile Force. a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Press Agency reported on Friday.

The medium-range missile system named Oreshnik, which means hazel in Russian, can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear warheads, the senior general said.

According to the general, the missile cannot be stopped by anti-aircraft defenses.

Earlier, Putin had stated in a speech to military and defense officials that the new missile would be put into mass production.

The Kremlin said on Friday that Russia’s launch of the experimental ballistic missile against Ukraine should be taken as a warning to the West.
