The Supreme Court rejects Michael Avenatti’s latest legal challenge, dismissing Kavanaugh

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Michael Avenatti’s attempt to get the justices to review his convictions stemming from his former representation of Stephanie Clifford, better known as Stormy Daniels, who testified against Donald Trump in his New York criminal case earlier this year .

It’s the latest Supreme Court rejection for the famed Trump antagonist after the justices in May declined to hear his appeal of separate convictions for attempting to extort Nike.

In both cases, Judge Brett Kavanaugh was rebuffed, which the judge did not explain but may have been due to Avenatti’s representation of a woman who filed disputed claims against Kavanaugh during his 2018 Supreme Court appointment.

Avenatti’s latest bid followed the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals upholding his fraud and identity theft convictions in his Daniels case. The appeals court said the evidence against him was “overwhelming” in the case in which he stole the advance on the adult film star’s book.

The Justice Department did not even bother to respond to Avenatti’s Supreme Court petition, and the justices did not request a response, suggesting that Avenatti’s petition was on its way to being dismissed, which the court confirmed on Tuesday by approving the petition. Avenatti, 53, is being held at a low-security prison in San Pedro, California, with a release date of July 31, 2035, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
