The Supreme Leader’s adviser says Iran will respond to Israeli attack

Iran will respond to the latest Israeli attacks, a close adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said.

“The Israeli attacks will not go unanswered,” Kamal Kharrazi, Khamenei’s foreign policy adviser, told Arabic news channel Al Mayadeen, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.

The range of Iranian missiles could also be increased in the future, Kharrazi said.

He also said that in the event of an existential threat from Israel, the country would review its current nuclear doctrine.

Technically, Iran is capable of producing nuclear weapons, he said, adding: “The only obstacle is the religious ban.”

Tehran insists that nuclear weapons have no place in Iran’s defense strategy and that its nuclear program is peaceful and complies with international regulations.

Furthermore, there is a fatwa – a religious legal opinion – from Khamenei, which bans both the construction and use of weapons of mass destruction.

Kharrazi’s comments referred to Israeli attacks in recent weeks on Iran’s military installations and air defense system, which Tehran said caused little damage. The attacks were in retaliation for Iran firing about 200 missiles into Israel in early October.
