The W’burg City Council is seeking additional funding from the Cleaner Water Program

Nov. 29—WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg City Council met Monday for a specially called meeting to approve a resolution requesting $399,648 in additional funding from the Kentucky Cleaner Water Grant program.

Mayor Roddy Harrison explained the opportunity, saying, “This grant is leftover funding from the Cleaner Water Program, and we are applying to receive nearly $400,000 for water and sewer improvements.”

Harrison highlighted how these additional funds would address infrastructure needs in key areas of the city.

“This money will help us target areas that need upgrades the most,” he said.

He also noted the city’s success with similar grants in the past, saying, “We have used most of the previous funding for sewer projects, and this will allow us to expand that work.”

The Cleaner Water Grant Program, established by the Kentucky General Assembly, provides municipalities with funding for water and sewer infrastructure improvements.

“This funding was put in place so cities could address water issues,” Harrison said. “It has been a tremendous resource and we want to take advantage of the remaining funds.”

Mayor Harrison said he has been in contact with state lawmakers to ensure the city’s request is prioritized.

“We met with the senator [Robert] Penny and representative [Nick] Wilson to bring this forward,” he explained. “Once we get the grant approved, it will go a long way in helping us complete the necessary upgrades.”

The council unanimously approved the resolution, allowing the city to submit the application before the deadline. The meeting also included a formal swearing-in of current councilors following the general election earlier this month. All were re-elected unopposed.
