A group of thieves disguised as landscapers broke into an Upland home this week and made off with thousands of dollars and guns from a family while they were away.
Upland police say it happened around noon on Tuesday.
Police say the ordeal began when a suspect, wearing a mask and sweater, first showed up at the family’s home and posed as a DoorDash delivery driver. He left shortly afterwards, with the homeowners telling police they had not ordered anything that would bring the man to their home.
Nearly 30 minutes later, two more men, both wearing gloves, masks, jeans and straw hats typical of what gardeners might wear, arrived at the house and began walking through the property.
They eventually ended up in the backyard, where they entered the house through the sliding glass door.
Ring video shows the suspects inside, wandering from room to room. It’s unclear exactly how long they were inside, but residents say the suspects stole a gun safe bolted to the floor that contained several guns, $10,000 in cash and important documents.
Police say this is the first time they have investigated a burglary where the thieves used this specific disguise, and they usually come dressed as repairmen.
They are unsure if the incident is connected to the international crime ring suspected of burglarizing homes throughout Southern California.
