Annual Christmas cookie sale

Friday, December 13 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Saturday, December 14 from 9:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Perry First United Methodist Church.

First United Methodist Church will host its annual Christmas Cookie Sale on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14 in Perry. Soup will also be available on Saturday, December 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Baked goods will be priced as indicated and a voluntary donation will be taken for soup.

A night for Mrs. Claus

Friday, December 13 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Perry companies.

You love Sip & Shop’s, so make plans to head to the Perry Chamber for “A Night for Mrs. Claus!” Enjoy an after-hours shopping experience at Perry businesses on Friday, December 13. Shop for cool weather apparel, holiday decorations, gifts and more while enjoying free refreshments at each location. Soft drinks and in-store offerings vary by location. Participating businesses include: Backwards Boutique, Betsy Peterson Designs, Gatherings On 2nd, Harper Rose’s Floral & Gifts, Mary Rose Collective, Perry Booster Club Pop Up at Town Craft, Perry Flowers by Donna Jean, Susie’s Shop and The Scottish Fox .

Holiday tour of historic houses

4:00 PM – 6:00 PM or 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday, December 13 in Adel.

The Adel Historical Museum is organizing a holiday tour of historic houses on Friday, December 13. The tour includes two houses and the decorated Adel Museum. Hors d’oeuvres and wine are served at one stop and dessert and coffee at the other. Register for free prizes and enjoy a unique evening full of Christmas spirit. A limited number of tickets will be sold for $25 for two tour times from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM or from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased at Adel Flower and Gifts.

Coordinating the Christmas bird count

9-10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at Forest Park Museum, 14581 K Ave., Perry.

If you have heard of the Christmas Bird Count but are not sure if you have the login details to participate, we encourage you to attend one of these meetings. This will be an informal question and answer session for people who are new to the CBC or need some clarification. We will discuss protocols and discuss more difficult identification. Do you think it’s too cold to be outside on a stormy winter day? We also need feeder watchers. You can be an armchair ornithologist and share what you saw from the comfort of your home. Woodward Public Library is hosting a cookie and candy sale on Saturday, December 14. All proceeds go to the library to supplement the collection or to support grants.

Merchant films

11am Saturday, December 14 at Perry Grand 3 Theaters.

Perry Grand 3 Theaters is offering free admission to Christmas movies at 11 a.m. on Saturdays through December 21. “A Christmas Story” will be shown on Saturday, December 14, followed by “The Polar Express” on December 21.

Wreaths across America

11 a.m. Saturday, December 14 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel.

The Wreaths Across America ceremony begins promptly at 11am. So make sure you arrive about 30 minutes in advance so you can park and walk to the ceremony location. A holiday event at Adel’s Museum

12-4 pm December 14-15 in the Adel Historical Museum.

Nadine Law and Aubrey Dunbar have worked their magic and transformed the Adel Historical Museum into a beautiful wonderland. Come see their work and enjoy the history of the museum as you visit the many rooms decorated especially for the Christmas season.

Festival of trees

Join Adel First Christian Church on Sunday, December 15 for a magical dinner between the Trees and Christmas Festival. Soup for $5 is served from 11am to 1pm, along with deluxe desserts ($5) from 11am to 3pm. Start your morning with worship and the choral cantata: “Emmanuel, Celebrating Heaven’s Child” at 9:30 am. The church is located one block north of the courthouse. The eastern entrance is fully accessible.

Pelt scavenger hunt

1-2pm Sunday, December 15 at Kuehn Conservation Area, 32849 Houston Ave., Earlham.

Can you find them all? Jump to Kuehn to see if you can find all the critters hiding around the upper loop of the path. This is an independent walk; the naturalist will help you along the way, just be there for questions and you’ll go on your own adventure!

PHS Cake Auction

6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 17 at Perry High School Commons.

The Perry Booster Club will sponsor a silent cake auction on Tuesday, December 17, during Perry High School’s basketball doubleheader against Saydel. Bluejays and Jayettes apparel will also be available for purchase.

Blue Christmas Service

6:00 PM Thursday, December 19 at First Christian Church, 1224 Lucinda St., Perry.

The Perry Ministerial Association invites you to join them for their annual Blue Christmas Service. In these holidays, when everything around us says be cheerful and cheerful, it can be easy to feel like you are alone in sadness or grief. The Ministerial Association holds this service every year as a reminder that even in heartache, we can find hope, find grace in sorrow, and find peace in pain. Join them on Thursday, December 19 for a candlelight service full of peace, silence and hope. Las Posadas

6:30 – 8:30 PM Friday, December 20 from First Christian Church, Perry.

Hispanics United for Perry will hold its annual Las Posadas Celebration on Friday, December 20. Las Posadas is a traditional Spanish Christmas celebration that reenacts Joseph and Mary’s quest to find a room in the inn where baby Jesus will be born. The celebration will begin with an ecumenical service at First Christian Church at 6 p.m. After the ceremony there will be a procession and caroling down 2nd Street. The celebration will conclude with a dinner at the First United Methodist Church beginning at 7 p.m. Freewill funds will be raised to support HUP scholarships for graduating high school students. The event also includes a special performance by the Los Laureles dance group and a children’s activity sponsored by the Perry Public Library. Gift certificates sponsored by local businesses will also be raffled.

TUBACHRISTMAS

1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 at Perry First United Methodist Church, 1100 3rd St., Perry.

The Perry Fine Arts Series presents TUBACHRISTMAS on Saturday, December 21. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the cost is $10 for participants. Rehearsal is at 10:30 am. The coordinator is Blaine Schmidt. Participants are encouraged to wear holiday attire. The Perry Fine Arts concerts are free, donations are accepted and open to all. Perry First United Methodist Church is handicap accessible.

Annual Christmas dinner

Wednesday, December 25 from 11am to 1:30pm at Perry Elks Lodge, 2823 Willis Ave.

The annual Christmas dinner will be held on Wednesday, December 25 at the Perry Elks Lodge. The meal includes ham, turkey, pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, dressing, rolls, salads and desserts, along with grab-and-go boxes of cookies. While visitors can enjoy a free in-person meal, there are also delivery options. Those looking for delivery can call the Elks Lodge at 515-465-3791 after 10 a.m. on December 25. A large order for pickup or delivery should be placed early if possible.

Festival of trees

Through January 4 at the Carnegie Library Museum, Perry.

This holiday season, the Carnegie Library Museum will host the 10th annual Festival of Trees. This Perry tradition started in 2014 with just 12 trees and a team of enthusiastic volunteers. Since then, participation has grown to include not only a Carnegie Library filled with beautiful trees and creative displays, but also community activities such as coloring for children, scavenger hunts, a handmade quilt raffle and a special time welcoming the Latino community. view the displays. The public is invited to enjoy this free festival during Carnegie Library hours from November 23 to January 4, excluding holiday hours. The Latino community is invited to a special Saturday Festival of Trees Showcase from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 14.
