If you want to visit one of America’s best small towns, try Connecticut.
Travel Curator, a travel and hospitality website, published an article this year about the 35 best small towns to visit in the United States, and one town in Connecticut was featured there.
“Small towns are also often a great way to immerse yourself in the larger destination itself (don’t get us wrong, we love big cities too) because the allure of the small town can range from farmers markets, local artisans, charming places to places to stay, independent restaurants and beautiful downtown shopping areas,” the article said.
Mystic, known for “Mystic Pizza” with its many tourist attractions and historic city center, won the prize.
Is Mystic CT worth a visit?
Travel Curator pointed out Mystic’s charm as a reason to visit.
“Discover the rich maritime history, famous aquarium, historic monuments and unique shops and restaurants of the charming coastal town of Mystic, Connecticut,” the Mystic entry said.
The Mystic Seaport and the Mystic Aquarium are the two highlights of the city. The seaport itself is special because the Mystic Seaport Museum is located here. The museum features a recreation of a New England seaside village and a functional shipyard.
The aquarium in Mystic is notable for housing the only beluga whales in New England, and it is one of two facilities in the country that house Stellar sea lions.
In addition to the two major attractions, the downtown area is also worth a stroll, with plenty of waterfront restaurants, including one that just won a James Beard award.
