This Halloween could be Philadelphia’s warmest in decades. Here’s a look at temperatures over the past 20 years

There’s usually a chill in the air by the time Halloween rolls around in the Delaware Valley. But this year the region is It’s predicted to be his warmest Halloween in almost 80 years. And that’s not a trick.

On October 31, 2024, the NEXT Weather team predicts a maximum temperature of 82 degrees, which could tie the warmest Halloween record set in 1946.

That record of 82 degrees is the only time Philadelphia has seen a high temperature in the 80s on Halloween since record keeping began more than 150 years ago.

So you don’t need heavy coats and winter gear for trick-or-treating. By 4 p.m., when some of the younger ghosts and goblins go to pick up their candy, the temperature will hover around 79 degrees. By 6 p.m. the temperature will only drop slightly to 26 degrees. It will be a mild and breezy 72 around 8 p.m.

On the other hand, the coldest Halloween morning in Philadelphia was in 1966, when the temperature dropped to a frigid 26 degrees. The coldest day was recorded in 1925, with a temperature of 41 degrees.

In 2011 and 2012, our region celebrated Halloween in the aftermath of a major weather event. During the 2011 “Snowtober,” Philadelphia International Airport picked up 0.8 inches of snow on October 29, but parts of the northern suburbs received as much as 6 inches. This year was also the last time temperatures dropped below freezing on Halloween.

The following year, the area was just hit by Superstorm Sandy. Millions of people were without power and trees and branches were downed across the region after Sandy made landfall on October 29. Halloween festivities were postponed or canceled in much of the region.
