Atmosphere is one thing, money is another — Kamala Harris has both, at least for now.
According to a Politico analysis, more donors contributed to Harris’ campaign in its first 10 days than did to Biden during his entire 15-month re-election campaign.
Between July 21, the day Biden withdrew, and July 31, 2.3 million people donated to Harris, compared to just under 2.1 million people who donated to the president since he announced his re-election bid in April 2023.
And on July 21, Harris received 3.5 times as many donations as Biden on his best fundraising day.
If that weren’t enough, most donors hadn’t given to Democrats this cycle, and nearly 70% hadn’t contributed to Biden’s campaign. Harris is clearly mobilizing new demographics of voters, as she had ten times as many Gen Z donors in July as Biden did in June.
Small donors have rallied around Harris since the day she first launched her campaign, breaking the record for single-day fundraising. The campaign saw a new influx of money when Gov. Tim Walz joined the ticket. With the boost of energy, Harris has completely erased Donald Trump’s cash advantage, now holding $68 million more than the former president.
It’s not just small, grassroots donors who are excited about Harris, a Bay Area native with deep ties to Silicon Valley. Billionaires and corporate leaders have also thrown their weight behind her campaign, while a vocal section of the tech world has been drawn to Trump.
