Three people shot dead in Oakland in two separate incidents

Three people were shot dead in two separate incidents in Oakland on Saturday, police said.

The first shooting happened in the 600 block of 23rd Street just before 4:30 p.m., police said. Officers responded to a report of a shooting and found two victims with gunshot wounds, police said.

Despite the efforts of emergency services to save the victims, both victims died at the scene, police said.

Shortly after, police learned of a gunshot victim who reportedly arrived at an area hospital, police said. The victim is in stable condition, police said.

Preliminary investigation indicates the third victim sustained injuries in the earlier shooting in the 600 block of 23rd Street, police said.

Police said the victim’s name will remain confidential until family can be reached.

OPD is also investigating a shooting that they say occurred in the 10500 block of E Street just after 8 p.m. Saturday. Officers responded to the area to investigate a ShotSpotter activation, police said.

When officers arrived, they found a victim with a gunshot wound or wounds, police said. Paramedics attempted to save the injured person, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Detectives from the OPD’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene to begin a follow-up investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The victim’s name is being withheld until family can be reached.
