Three Trump operatives have been charged in Wisconsin over the 2020 election campaign

Kenneth Chesebroan architect of donald trump’s plan to undermine the 2020 election has been charged with felony tampering in wisconsin, court records show.

Chesebro, who developed a strategy to engineer a fake presidential election — and use it to foment a conflict on January 6, 2021, aimed at blocking Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory — was teamed up with Jim Troupis, a Trump campaign lawyer from 2020, indicted and Mike Roman, a former Trump campaign official.

Chesebro and Roman were previously identified as Trump’s alleged co-conspirators in Georgia and Arizona. This is the first time Troupis has faced criminal charges in connection with the alleged scheme. All three face the same forgery charge, which stems from their role in requesting and delivering fake voter certificates to Congress in December 2020.

The criminal charges against Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat from Wisconsin, had not been officially announced as of Tuesday morning, but the charging papers were publicly available on a court docket for Dane County, where the state capital, Madison, is located.

Wisconsin is the fifth state to file charges against electoral system participants, but it has special significance because the scheme was largely hatched there. Chesebro was replaced by Troupis to craft an electoral strategy in November 2020, primarily focused on Wisconsin. But as Trump became increasingly desperate to avoid his defeat in the 2020 election, Troupis promoted Chesebro’s efforts to the national campaign, which quickly opted to export them to other states as part of a national strategy.

Ultimately, Chesebro became the point person for Trump and his allies to coordinate the list of fake voters in seven states. Potential pro-Trump voters have been charged in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan and Nevada.

Special counsel Jack Smith also labeled Chesebro as an unindicted co-conspirator in Trump’s criminal case in Washington, D.C., calling him the source of Trump’s increasingly marginal legal and political strategy.

Chesebro pleaded guilty to a single charge in Georgia and received a nominal sentence. He cooperated with investigators in Arizona and was labeled an unindicted co-conspirator there. He has also been the subject of civil lawsuits in Michigan and Wisconsin that shed light on his extraordinary efforts on behalf of Trump.
