Thursday Night Football: Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown to miss season opener vs. Ravens with shoulder injury

The Kansas City Chiefs have ruled wide receiver Hollywood Brown out of Thursday’s NFL opener against the Baltimore Ravens with a shoulder injury.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Friday that Brown likely would not play after suffering the injury during the team’s first preseason game in August. The 27-year-old Brown is in his first season with the Chiefs after spending the last five seasons with the Ravens and Arizona Cardinals.

Brown is expected to be out for four to six weeks.

The Chiefs still have Rashee Rice, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore and Mecole Hardman as options at the wide receiver position for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, along with tight end Travis Kelce.

Brown signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs in March worth up to $11 million. He will miss the chance to play against his former team, the Ravens, who drafted him 25th overall in 2019.

Brown spent the past two seasons with the Cardinals, catching 51 receptions for 574 yards and four touchdowns, the first two of which were career lows.

All other players on the Chiefs’ injury report this week, including defenseman Chris Jones and defenseman Joe Thuney, have been declared full participants in training and are expected to be available.
