June 4—TIFTON — Three Tift County residents are behind bars after an incident involving an intoxicated baby.
On April 21, Tifton police were notified by Tift Regional Medical Center that a 5-month-old child brought in by the mother had high levels of alcohol in his system, according to a police statement.
A 25-year-old woman, a 34-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were charged with child abuse (second degree) and making false statements and writings. They are being held in the Tift County Jail.
Police and the state Department of Family and Children Services have launched an investigation. The baby is in DFCS custody.
Police identified the three arrestees as those who had contact with the child throughout the day when the alcohol was served. Inconsistencies were found in the evidence collected and in the statements of the three, police said.
