A week after saying he was unsure when he would be able to return to competitive golf, Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he will join his son Charlie in the PNC Championship later this month.
“I am very excited to return to the PNC Championship with Charlie next week,” Woods said in a statement. “Playing together is something we look forward to and it is always more special when you are surrounded by friends and family.”
Woods withdrew from the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas last weekend, which will benefit his foundation as he continues to rehabilitate his back following microdecompression surgery in September.
The PNC Championship, taking place in Orlando from December 21 to 22, is a much more relaxed event, with 20 two-player teams taking part in a 36-hole scramble with major champions and family members. Woods and his son have played together every year since 2020, including a second-place finish at the 2021 event.
Charlie Woods, 15, qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur this year and finished in 29th place at the Class 1A Florida High School Boys State Championship in November. His school, The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, finished second in the team competition.
John Daly, Nick Faldo, Justin Leonard, Vijah Singh, Lee Trevino and Padraig Harrington are among those competing with their sons in the PNC Championship. LPGA star Nelly Korda plays with her father, Petr, the 1998 Australian Open winner.
