Haris named Walz, a former Minnesota congressman and schoolteacher, is her running mate at the end of a three-week campaign “veepstakes” on August 6 after President Joe Biden’s speech decision to end his re-election campaign.
A search of the video shows the footage is from a campaign event where Harris and Walz spoke in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. on August 7Walz attacked the Republican Party’s positions on issues such as reproductive rights, student debt and health care.
In a portion of his speech pushing for stricter federal gun control laws, he said he was the “top gun” at clay pigeon shooting, a form of skeet shooting, and that he could “shoot more” than other members of Congress who opposed gun control laws (archived here and here).
Neither he nor Harris referred to Crooks or the Trump rally shooting in their remarks. The full text has been released by the White House (archived here ).
“And just like Wisconsin, we in Minnesota believe in the Second Amendment, but we also believe in sensible gun laws,” he said about nine minutes into the event.
“And just so you know, when I was in Congress, I was the best at the trap three years in a row — I can outdo them, too. I can outdo these guys.”
In the reporting on the Wisconsin demonstration on social media, there was no mention of the claims. AFP contacted a spokesperson for Walz but received no response.
AFP has debunked other false and misleading claims about Walz.
