To end the housing crisis, Louisville homebuilders must shift their focus

Maybe the homebuilders should look at building actual housing that we need – without center, alley-oriented, walking plazas and all the many iterations of urban infill that could happen if these people weren’t so focused on single-family expansion or mega- apartments in the suburbs. We need co-housing for the elderly, small homes for those in need with limited resources, and good housing for those experiencing homelessness.

Instead, we’ve bulldozed loads of adaptable buildings for “plazas” and “soon” mega-developments like NuLu Crossings, a dead project that reflects the total lack of appropriate affordable options in urban neighborhoods. Half of the land west of Interstate 65 is vacant. Do you want density? It’s been waiting for years. Unfortunately, we plan to continue demolition and create more vacant vacant land, aka the Urban Government Center. Hurry up and wait.
