Iowa again experienced severe weather Friday morning, buffeted by thunderstorms and high winds.

Around 5:20 a.m., a tornado warning was issued for towns north of Newton. Threats include pea-sized hail and a tornado. The warning is expected to last until 6am and extends west of Mitchellville and towards Melbourne and Haverhill. The threat area is estimated to include more than 24,000 people.

Ames is still under a tornado warning as much of central Iowa experiences renewed severe weather. The threat extends into northern New Providence, including Roland, Zearing and Nevada. Pea-sized hail and a tornado were possible until 5:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Services. The warning area included more than 38,000 people.
5:03am Friday
An area just north of Des Moines was under a tornado warning around 5 a.m. The threat area stretched from Ames to Huxley and as far west as Woodward. Hail and a tornado were possible until 5:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Services.
