Tornadoes have been reported in Noble and LaGrange counties

Sept. 24—LIGONIER — Fallen trees blocked Rochester Road near Ligonier Tuesday after a storm system with a reported tornado blew in.

Witnesses said the tornado touched down near Engle Lake, just north of West Noble Community Schools.

One of those witnesses was Shania Turner, who captured video of the tornado.

“My friend was driving and we were supposed to go straight but luckily he saw the car land in the corn before we went any further,” Turner said in a message. “I told him to accelerate because we couldn’t see which way he was going and I was very nervous with my daughters in the truck.”

The first report and warning came in around 4:30 p.m.

The storm system moved northeast toward LaGrange County. Witnesses reported a tornado touching down there as well, near Topeka.

Our reporters at WNDU stated, “Our team responded to the 2900 block of East 300 South in LaGrange County where we found damage to several buildings, as well as downed trees and power lines.”

The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana is looking for anyone with photos or videos of the tornado.

“Please provide us with an intersection and a city where it happened. We would also like an estimate of the time it happened if possible,” the NWS said in a Facebook post.
