Totally Cool, a manufacturer of ChipWich, Friendly’s and other ice cream brands, is recalling more than 60 products because they may contain listeria.
The Owing Mills, Maryland-based company disclosed in a June 24 recall posted by the Food and Drug Administration that the products were sold nationwide in stores and via direct delivery. Totally Cool said it has halted production and distribution of the items and that no other company products were affected.
According to Totally Cool, no illnesses have been reported.
Consumers who have purchased one of the products can return it to the place of purchase. Anyone with questions can contact Totally Cool at (410) 363-7801 or Regulatory@totallycoolicecream.com, Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Eastern Time.
Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in the young, vulnerable and elderly. Symptoms often include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
