Tracking showers and storms in the Philadelphia area on July 4

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — After a few days of beautiful weather, the weather in the Philadelphia area will change on July 4, with showers and storms expected, especially in the afternoon and evening.

You should pay attention to the weather forecast throughout the day and keep your eyes on the sky, as lightning can be a threat. Remember that if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Make sure to stay indoors during thunderstorms. The heat and humidity are also increasing, so be prepared to sweat.

That pattern of heat, humidity and afternoon storms will continue through the weekend with highs in the low 90s, morning lows in the 70s and a chance of showers or storms each day. Right now, it looks like Saturday will be the most active. A slight drop in humidity on Sunday, but it will still be warm.

In the tropics, Hurricane Beryl remains a dangerous hurricane, moving toward the Yucatan Peninsula on Friday morning and eventually toward southern Texas on Monday. Although it will be much weaker, it could bring flooding and rainfall to an area recently hit by Alberto.

Stay tuned to CBS Philadelphia as we continue to monitor the tropics and forecasts for the upcoming holidays and long weekend!
