Traveling for Thanksgiving? Farmers’ Almanac publishes holiday travel forecasts

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year.

Whether you’re traveling across town to visit family or to another part of the country, it’s important to know the weather forecast.

According to AAA, 88.7% of Thanksgiving travelers drive to their destination. You need to know the road conditions. For the 8.5% of travelers who fly, you still need to know what conditions you’re flying into and what delays you might encounter.

Here’s a look at the expected forecast.

When is Thanksgiving 2024?

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 28, the last possible date for Thanksgiving.

Since 1941, Thanksgiving has been held on the fourth Thursday in November. The earliest date Thanksgiving can fall is November 22.

From 1938 to 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving to the third Thursday in November to extend the holiday sales season.

Farmers Almanac Thanksgiving Forecast

Farmers’ Almanac has released its Thanksgiving forecast and for most of the country, it looks like travel should be very easy.

The entire eastern third of the country should experience variable seasonal temperatures, but outside Maine temperatures should remain above freezing, making travel easier. This will be good news for most airport hubs such as Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, New York and Washington, DC

If you’re looking for warmer-than-average temperatures, your best bets are peninsula Florida, southern Texas, most of California, and part of the central and north-central United States – warmer than average is relative to that region.
