YouTuber Trisha Paytas used to be a divisive figure on the internet, but she’s been making big changes lately and some of her dreams are coming true. For a lifetime Bad fan, she attended the film’s premiere in Los Angeles, and now she’s made one of her biggest fantasies come true: appearing on Saturday evening live.
Last night’s episode presented by Gladiator II star Paul Mescal, in which Paytas made a surprise SNL debut in a sketch that makes fun of Mescal’s idiosyncratic musical tastes. The scene shows a group of friends discussing their Spotify Wrapped picks for the end of the year. Mescal shocks his friends by naming an unknown, Satoshi Gutman, as his favorite artist. Mescal’s character describes Gutman, played by Bowen Yang, as an “anti-instrumentalist sound guru from Dundalk, Maryland.” and says he listened to him for 170,000 minutes.
The friends look surprised, so Mescal shows them a clip from his podcast “Awakenings,” with Paytas as an “iconic guest.” Paytas and Gutman then appear in the friends’ living room because, as she explains, “Me and my king Satoshi were walking around the area.” She greets the friends and addresses them as “bastards” and they agree that the best “bacy” is celibacy. The group then ends the skit by dancing to Gutman’s chart-topping hit, which includes the line, “I was normal, but then y’all made me celibate.”
At the end of the show, Mescal called out Paytas for his appearance in the episode.
