Trump and Harris debate in their first presidential showdown of 2024

Harris was asked how she would break the stalemate between Israel and Hamas.

“Well, let’s look at how we got here,” Harris said. “On October 7, Hamas, a terrorist organization, slaughtered 1,200 Israelis, many of them young people who were just going to a concert. Women were brutally raped. And so absolutely, I said then, I say now, Israel has the right to defend itself, we would do that. And how it does that is important.”

Harris said the world must “chart a course” for a “two-state solution.”

“I will always give Israel the ability to defend itself, especially when it comes to Iran,” Harris said.

When given the opportunity to discuss how he would negotiate a ceasefire, Trump claimed that Russia would never have invaded Ukraine under his administration.

“But when she talks about Israel, she suddenly hates Israel,” Trump claimed of Harris. He also claimed that Harris “hates the Arab population” because the entire region is going to be “blown up.”

When given the chance to respond, Harris said it is “absolutely not true” that she hates Israel.

“He’s trying to sow division again and distract from reality,” said Harris, who called Trump “weak and wrong” on foreign policy.

Minutes after Trump praised Orban, Harris said: “It is absolutely known that these dictators and autocrats want to make sure that you are back in office because it is very clear that they can manipulate you with flattery and favors.”
