WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday he will appoint Republican former congressman Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.
“He will ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be made in a way that will unleash the power of corporate America while maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on earth,” Trump said in a statement speech. post on his social media platform Truth Social.
Trump will likely try to undo many of the EPA’s rules on fossil fuel burning, including one that reduces CO2 emissions from power plants and another that reduces vehicle emissions.
“We will restore American energy dominance, revive our auto industry to bring back American jobs, and make the US the world leader in AI,” Zeldin said on the social media platform intelligence used.
