Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump lashed out on his social media site Truth Social on Saturday following Friday night’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
In a tirade against HBO’s “increasingly boring” talk show, Trump complained about Maher inviting MSBNC host Stephanie Ruhle, who called the former president a “dumb as a rock” bimbo.
In a clip from the episode that has been widely circulated on social media, Ruhle and Maher attempted to convince conservative New York Times columnist Bret Stephens to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Stephens said he would not vote for Trump, but did not want to commit to Harris because he was unclear about many of her policies.
Ruhle countered that the fact that he didn’t want Trump to win was a good reason to vote for Harris.
“She’s running against Trump,” Ruhle said. “We have two choices. And so there are a number of things that you may not know her answer to, and in 2024, unlike 2016 for many Americans, we know exactly what Trump is going to do, who he is, and what kind of threat he poses to democracy.”
Maher joked that he felt like Stephens was “the dog we were trying to get in the car to go to the vet.”
While Trump reserved the sexist epithet for Ruhle, he also had less than nice things to say about Maher and Stephens, calling Maher a “confused mess, sloppy and tired,” while characterizing Stephens as a “Trump-hating loser.”
Trump previously drew criticism in 2016 for retweeting another person who had called Megyn Kelly a “bimbo,” shortly after the then-Fox News host criticized Trump’s use of derogatory language about women.
