Multiple shots were fired on Sunday near former President Donald Trump, who was at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump is “safe following gunfire in his area,” said Steven Cheung, the Trump campaign’s communications director, who said the campaign would not provide “any further details” at this time.
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the Secret Service and the Palm Beach County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office “are investigating a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. The former president is safe.”
Trump’s campaign, which is also based in West Palm Beach, is on lockdown, according to an anonymous person who asked to discuss the situation.
The shooting came just 64 days after Trump survived an assassination attempt at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
