Trump tells New York rally ‘I’m going there. I’m going to Springfield’

Former President Donald Trump said at a rally in New York on Wednesday night, “I’m going to Springfield,” where national attention has shone brightly over the past week over the influx of Haitian immigrants and comments he made about them during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

News Center 7 has been reporting continuously on the Haitian immigrants in Springfield and the reactions to comments made by Trump and JD Vance.

Trump spoke about the influx of immigrants, not just in Springfield, but across the country.

“And in Springfield, Ohio?” he asked the crowd in Uniondale, New York. “They had 32,000. This is a beautiful town. No crime. No problems. Thirty-two thousand illegal immigrants, they almost doubled their population in a few weeks.

“Can you believe it?” Trump asked the crowd. “And you know what? They’ve got to get a lot tougher. … I’m going there. I’m going to Springfield and I’m going to Aurora.”

As News Center 7 previously reported, about 15,000 immigrants have arrived in Springfield in the past three years, not 32,000 as Trump claims.

According to city of Springfield officials, all immigrants are legal residents of Springfield.
