PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Happy Tuesday, everyone! After a relatively cold start, Tuesday will bring plenty of sunshine as temperatures in the Philadelphia region climb back into the low 80s.
Humidity will remain very low, so temperatures will have a moderately large swing. This trend will continue for the rest of the week.
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center extended outlook calls for drier than normal conditions in the Delaware Valley through Sept. 24. There is currently no drought, but abnormally dry conditions are spreading across the region.
At the time of writing, Tropical Storm Francine continues to move north and will likely impact an area from Texas to Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane on Wednesday with sustained winds over 100 mph. Additionally, rainfall will be a major concern, with 7-10 inches possible for some areas along the Gulf Coast. We will continue to monitor this closely, but at this time it does not appear to get far enough north to impact weather in the Philadelphia area.
With fall just around the corner, it’s hard to believe that summer is already here.
The autumnal equinox (beginning of fall) is less than two weeks away on September 22 at 8:44 a.m. EDT. On that day, we will have equal hours of daylight and darkness, but our daylight hours will start to get shorter rapidly after September 22. The days will feel even shorter on November 3, when Daylight Savings Time ends and we turn our clocks back one hour, making our mornings brighter but our evenings darker.
The only bright spot is that extra hour of sleep.
