MINNEAPOLIS — This Sunday is the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, but all the fun starts on Friday.
There are plenty of fun things to do and see, in addition to cheering on thousands of runners for all of this weekend’s races.
Starting Friday at 11 a.m., the Twin Cities Health and Fitness Expo kicks off at the downtown Saint Paul RiverCentre. It’s a chance for runners to connect and explore more than 100 exhibitors. It runs Friday until 7pm and Saturday from 10am to 6pm
The TC 10K will depart Saturday from 7:15 a.m. via Summit Avenue to the State Capitol. This will be followed by the 5K at 8:45 a.m. around the grounds of the State Capitol.
Family events – including the Half Mile, Diaper Dash and Toddler Trot – start Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Medtronic TC 10 Mile departs Sunday at 7 a.m., just before the weekend’s signature marathon begins at 8 a.m.
The final race of the weekend is this year’s newest event: the TC Half Marathon for More. This starts at 9:30 am
A warning to all non-runners: If you’re traveling through St. Paul or Minneapolis this weekend, expect road closures. Find maps with detailed closing information on the marathon website. Metro Transit will also delay some routes depending on the races.
This year’s marathon sold out about two weeks agowith runners eager to join in on the subway that follows last year’s last-minute cancellation due to dangerous heat.
This year there will also be lactation stations, a first for the marathon, courtesy of the organization Pump spotting.
