Two arrests in connection with Harvest Homecoming shooting, New Albany police chief says

New Albany police arrested two people on Oct. 12 in connection with the Harvest Homecoming shooting that killed 18-year-old Bryce Gerlach and injured two others, Chief Todd Bailey said in a news release Sunday.

Bailey did not reveal who was arrested due to the “ongoing nature of the investigation,” though he said one person had “a direct connection to the case” and that “several weapons” had been seized during a joint operation in New Albany , Jeffersonville and Washington. Louisville. Bailey did not say what the charges were and deferred comment to the Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office.

Beginning around 6 a.m. Sunday, officers from the New Albany Police Department, Jeffersonville Police, Louisville Metro Police, Metro SWAT Team and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed search warrants at six different locations, Bailey said. Of those locations, four were in New Albany, one in Jeffersonville and one in Louisville.

“Floyd County Prosecutor Chris Lane is working closely with our agency to ensure that all individuals responsible for the murder of Bryce Gerlach and the shooting of two others are brought to justice,” the news release said.

Bailey said the arrests happened because of “a good day for our community.”

“Great steps have been taken today to ensure justice for Bryce and the others injured in this act of senseless violence,” he stated. “Our team has worked tirelessly from the moment of the incident to get to where we are today. These types of cases are complicated and time-consuming, but our commitment to our community is what drives us.”
