CHICAGO (CBS) — Two rounds of heavy rain and storms are scheduled for Tuesday in Chicago.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Chicago until 11 a.m
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Cook, Kane and Lake counties until 7:30 a.m. A maritime warning is also in effect along the lake shore due to dangerous swimming conditions.
Heavy rain and storms will reach the Illinois-Wisconsin state line at 6 a.m. The area will be under a Level 2 storm threat, which includes the threat of damaging winds up to 75 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS is also warning of large hail that could reach the size of ping pong balls. There is also an increased risk of flooding in the Chicago area when heavy rain falls.
Heavy rain and gusty winds will impact morning commuters. The storms are expected to end around 10am, bringing humid conditions.
Highs will reach the upper 80s to near 90 degrees.
Another round of severe storms will develop late this evening. Those storms can become intense.
Wednesday will be a sunny day with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.
Another storm is planned from Friday to Saturday.
