CHICAGO (CBS) — Two officers were injured after someone sprayed them with a fire extinguisher on the city’s south side Saturday morning.

It happened around 5 a.m. in the 5900 block of South Ashland Avenue.

Chicago police said the officers on duty were in a marked police car when an unknown perpetrator approached them in a vehicle. That person then sprayed a fire extinguisher into the police car, causing the officers to inhale the fumes.

The officers were treated and released at the scene.

No one has been detained since Saturday.

Area 1 detectives are investigating.
