A man and a woman were killed in shootings that occurred early Sunday morning at a home in southeast Wichita. Police are investigating it as a murder-suicide.
The case involved a 26-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who were previously domestic partners, Wichita Police Department spokesman Juan Rebolledo said Sunday.
Both victims were from Wichita. Their identities have not yet been released.
Patrol East officers were stopped at 3:40 a.m. by a woman who reported a man had broken into her home in the 800 block of South Edgemoor.
The woman was the roommate and girlfriend of the 21-year-old woman who was shot and died, Rebolledo said in an email.
The man broke into the home armed with a gun and made suicidal statements, according to a WPD news release.
Officers arrived at the home and tried to call the man, but were unsuccessful. SWAT and crisis negotiators were called and were unable to speak to the man inside.
SWAT officers entered the home and found both the man and woman dead from gunshot wounds, police said.
The investigation is ongoing and police say there is no threat to the community.
“The Wichita Police Department would like to extend our condolences and deepest condolences to the families of all those affected,” the statement said. “Our victim services advocates will work with families to provide the support and resources needed during this difficult time.”
