Two teens accused of attack in Downtown Pittsburgh appear in court; video shows even more are involved

Last week, Channel 11 brought you the story of a 37-year-old man who police say was brutally attacked in downtown Pittsburgh by a group of teenagers.

Two of the teens have been arrested and charged, but on Wednesday Channel 11 obtained video, and you can see that even more teens took part in this violent assault, who have yet to be identified.

In the video, the victim, Joshua, is seen shirtless being chased by the group of teens. One then knocks him to the ground while the others begin punching him repeatedly before one of the suspects stands over his body and begins kicking him. The group of teens then repeatedly stomp on the victim’s head before leaving him lying in the middle of the intersection.

In a criminal complaint, police described the victim’s injuries as a swollen right eye, a busted lip and a bruised forehead.

“I still have headaches and dizziness. I could have died from the injuries I sustained, I literally could have died,” he told Channel 11 News.

The victim told us that his younger brother, who goes to school downtown, had his phone stolen by a group of boys after class. Joshua hoped when he went to talk to the children that they would give the phone back, but instead they attacked him.

Police have charged two teenagers with crimes: Richard Robert, 18, who was released on bail, and William Yarbrough, 19. Police are still looking for the others involved. Joshua believes those teens continued to harass his brother.

“These boys come to his school and these boys bully him around town,” he said.

Joshua told us last week that his brother had to be sent home early from school because the staff feared for his safety.

“He’s obviously scared for his safety and we’re scared for him because we don’t know who these other guys are,” Joshua said. He continued: “Right now the officers have their hands full and are doing everything they can.”

Ultimately, he wants the other suspects behind bars.

Both Robert and Yarbrough’s charges were stayed in court. Yarbrough remains in custody at the Allegheny County Jail.
