Two-week closure of Hoover Avenue and Portage County B intersection planned in Plover

PLOVER – Drivers along Portage County B, between Post Road/State 54 and Interstate 39, will experience additional disruptions beginning in early September as the highway reconstruction project moves into its next phase.

From Sept. 4 through Sept. 17, the intersection of Portage County B and Hoover Avenue will be completely closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic and northbound and southbound traffic, according to a news release from the Portage County Highway Department.

Additionally, the portion of Portage County B west of Hoover Avenue to Wisconsin Avenue will also be closed from September 4 through September 17 for renovation work involving new concrete paving and final grading.

Access to businesses will be maintained during this phase via side roads, a temporary path and a crossing from Jay Mar Road to Iber Lane. Details of the detours can be found on the highway department website.

The primary detour for the project area will continue to use Interstate 39 and Post Road/State Highway 54.

The Portage County B construction project began in early April and is expected to be completed in late November.

Construction included two separate projects. The section between Hoover Avenue and Interstate 39 was replaced with the deteriorated concrete pavement. The section between Wisconsin Avenue and Hoover Avenue is being reconstructed from a rural to an urban design and will receive new curbs and gutters or asphalt shoulders, a wider median, a new concrete sidewalk and an asphalt multi-use path. This section will also undergo intersection reconstruction at the intersection with Mecca Drive to add traffic signals, the highway department said.

Improvements to the traffic signals at the intersection of Portage County B and Hoover Avenue are also planned.
