United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based EDGNEX Data Center, under DAMAC Group, has announced a joint venture (JV) with Thailand’s Proen, marking a strategic investment of more than $1 billion (Dh3.67 billion) in digital infrastructure of Thailand marks. Zawya reported.
This move aims to increase the region’s capacity for advanced AI technology and data processing.
The partnership will see EDGNEX acquire a 70% stake in the JV, responsible for data center operations.
The deal is expected to support digital transformation in Southeast Asia, with the first phase of the data center project, with a capacity of 5 MW, expected to be operational in early 2025.
This joint venture was unveiled in the presence of Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society HE Prasert Chantararuangthong.
The data center will be carrier neutral with Tier III uptime certification to guarantee customers the highest level of reliability.
EDGNEX’s investment joins a broader trend of technology companies expanding cloud and AI infrastructure in Southeast Asia, a region with a population of approximately 685 million.
The Bangkok data center is also expected to support Thailand’s economy and digital economy initiatives.
DAMAC founder Hussain Sajwani highlighted the gradual expansion plans, targeting hyperscalers, AI companies and government agencies, with approximately 100 MW of future data center capacity in the pipeline.
In addition to data centers, DAMAC is also looking at investments in high-quality residential projects in Thailand.
