UI Health nurses end strike

CHICAGO (CBS) — Nurses at UI Health are back at work, finishing a four-day strike.

The Illinois Nurses Association said late Saturday evening it had reached a tentative contract agreement with the hospital.

The union said the four-year agreement includes improvements in hospital safety, better wages and more input into personnel decisions.

“Our members have been deeply involved in these negotiations, from drafting the language to the negotiations
We monitor our update calls week by week,” veteran nurse Liz Flores said in a news release. “They knew what these staff and their patient community deserve and they were ready to fight for it.”

Nurses will vote next Tuesday to ratify the new contract.

Nurses at UI Health also went on strike for a week in August. Their union has accused the hospital of subjecting them to understaffing and unsafe working conditions, saying nurses have faced an increase in workplace violence in recent years.
