UN expresses condolences after car crashes into German Christmas market

The United Nations has expressed shock after a man drove a car into a Christmas market in the central German city of Magdeburg on Friday.

“We are shocked by the news of today’s attack in Magdeburg, Germany,” UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said in a statement.

“We express our condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of the Federal Republic of Germany. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

At least two people were killed, including a small child, and 60 were injured in the incident, authorities said.
