The United Nations warned on Wednesday that the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon is worsening as a result of the Israeli offensive.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said conditions were “deteriorating at an alarming rate”.
“The brutal bombardment increases the suffering of vulnerable populations,” the organization added.
On Sunday alone, more than 30 airstrikes hit the capital Beirut, the OCHA said, “scaring residents and forcing further displacement from densely populated areas.”
In the year since the October 7 attacks on Israel, more than 600,000 people in Lebanon have been internally displaced, according to UN figures, with 80% of the 978 collective shelters already full.
Three quarters of the reception centers are converted school buildings.
Due to the fighting, the start of the school year has already been postponed until November.
About 350,000 children have been displaced during the conflict in Lebanon, UNICEF figures show.
