Unemployment claims in Alabama fell last week

Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Alabama fell last week compared to the week before, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.

The number of new applications for unemployment benefits, a proxy for layoffs, fell to 2,175 in the week ended June 22, from 2,325 the week before, the Labor Department said.

U.S. jobless claims fell to 233,000 last week, down 6,000 from 239,000 claims the previous week, after seasonal adjustment.

Vermont saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims rising 268.4%. Delaware, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage decline in new claims, with claims falling 38.1%.
