Unemployment claims in Colorado rose last week

Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Colorado rose in the week of May 19 compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor said last Thursday.

New unemployment claims, a measure of layoffs, rose to 2,896 in the week ending May 25, up from 2,689 the week before, the Labor Department said.

U.S. unemployment claims rose to 219,000 last week, an increase of 3,000 claims from 216,000 the week before on a seasonally adjusted basis.

North Dakota saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 91.4%. New Hampshire, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage decline in new claims, with claims down 21.9%.
