Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Michigan fell last week compared to the week before, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.
New unemployment claims, a measure of layoffs, fell to 9,853 in the week ending Dec. 14, down from 11,948 the week before, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment benefits last week reached 220,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Delaware saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 32.3%. Georgia, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage decline in new claims, with claims down 50.6%.
