Unemployment claims in Ohio fell last week

Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Ohio fell last week compared to the week before, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.

New unemployment claims, a measure of layoffs, fell to 5,878 in the week ending June 15, down from 6,390 the week before, the Labor Department said.

U.S. unemployment claims fell to 238,000 last week, a decline of 5,000 claims from 243,000 the week before on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Delaware saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 131.2%. The percentage of new claims was the highest in the Virgin Islands: claims fell by 54.7%.
