Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Pennsylvania increased last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.
New unemployment claims, a measure of layoffs, rose to 21,211 in the week ending Dec. 28, up from 15,880 the week before, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment claims fell to 211,000 last week, down 9,000 claims from 220,000 the week before on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Delaware saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 120.6%. The percentage of new claims was the highest in the Virgin Islands: the number of claims fell by 70%.
