University of North Florida faculty union files complaint against university

The University of North Florida chapter of the United Faculty of Florida has filed a complaint accusing the university of failing to honor the terms of its contract.

The question is whether peer comparisons can be considered when determining whether professors can maintain their tenured status.

The union claims that comparisons with peers should not be taken into account.

But in an email sent to faculty in September, the university pushed back on the union’s claims, arguing that peer comparisons should be part of post-tenure evaluation because of a board rule .

Union requests to remove language comparing colleagues were denied.

UFF-UNF Chapter President Mark Halley told Action News Jax in an emailed statement: “We will never shy away from defending faculty rights and ensuring the agreements we negotiate are upheld.”
