INDIANAPOLIS – Southbound I-465 between I-70 and I-65 on the southeast side of Indianapolis will be closed for maintenance beginning May 31, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced Monday.
Crews will repair pavement, repair connections and repair bridge decks. During the week, southbound I-465 will be reduced to three lanes between 46th Street and the I-465/I-70 interchange. On weekends it will be further reduced to two lanes.
The closures are expected to end in the last weeks of June.
I-465 ramp closures
Eight ramps will be closed due to the project, including:

Pendleton Pike eastbound and westbound to southbound I-465 (as of May 30 at 9 p.m.)

Washington St./US 40 eastbound and westbound to southbound I-465 (as of May 31 at 9 a.m.)

Brookville Road/US 52 eastbound and westbound to southbound I-465 (as of May 31 at 9 a.m.)

I-70 eastbound and westbound to southbound I-465 (as of May 31 at 7 p.m.)

Shadowland Avenue southbound to I-465 southbound (starting June 1 at 9am)

Southeastern Avenue/Old US 421 to I-465 southbound (starting June 1 at 9 a.m.)

I-74 west to I-465 southbound (starting June 1 at 9 a.m.)

Emerson Avenue northbound and southbound to westbound I-465 (as of June 1 at 9 a.m.)
The Indiana Department of Transportation recommends that drivers use southbound I-465 to westbound I-70 to southbound I-65 as a temporary solution.
The project maintenance work is Phase 2 of 6 to repair I-465 between I-65 and US 31 on the east side of Indianapolis. The project should be completed in the spring of 2025.
I-465 grade metering
This project is one of several changes the department has implemented this year, including ramp metering on I-465 between I-65 and I-70 during peak travel times. Ramp metering regulates the number of vehicles on the highway. When the light on the driveway turns green, one car at a time joins the traffic.
