USC quarterback Miller Moss part of 2022 dispute that prompted university investigation

A disagreement between USC star quarterback Miller Moss and his former roommate and fellow Trojan quarterback Mo Hasan escalated to the point that the university opened an investigation into the feud in early 2022.

The dispute was resolved through USC’s standard student conduct resolution process, a person familiar with the situation who was not authorized to speak publicly told The Times. Police were never involved, and no legal action was taken.

Moss, who was recently named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance in USC’s win over Louisiana State, expressed regret in a statement Tuesday for the way he handled the dispute.

“I fully cooperated and took responsibility for my decisions, and the matter has been resolved,” Moss said. “I regret my actions and have grown and learned from this matter, and my focus is on the upcoming season.”

In a video first obtained by TMZ, Moss is seen first telling someone off-camera that he’s “stealing this shirt, dude” and then urging the off-camera person not to wear it.

In another clip, Moss, who was a freshman at the time, is seen with others rummaging through what appears to be his roommate’s closet. He then grabs a pillow from the bed, places it behind his butt and lets out what appears to be a fart. He later suggests to one of the others in the room that he get a jacket from the closet.

The roommate, a person with knowledge of the video said, was Hasan, who at one point filed a complaint with the university, which initiated a process for resolving student conduct. Moss was eventually required to write a paper apologizing for the incident.

“We take all complaints about student conduct seriously and are required by law to keep these matters private and confidential,” the university said in a statement. “Each case follows a prescribed and thorough review process as outlined in the USC Student Handbook. If a student is found responsible and has met all terms of his or her discipline, the case is considered closed. In this case, the matter was resolved and settled two and a half years ago.”

Moss, who has been at USC since 2021, looked like one of the best quarterbacks in college football during a Week 1 win over LSU. In his second start, Moss threw for 378 yards and a touchdown before leading a game-winning touchdown drive to beat the Tigers.

When asked about the situation on Tuesday, USC coach Lincoln Riley defended Moss, saying the timing of the video’s release was “very, let’s call it, interesting.”

“That’s a quality person right there,” Riley said of his quarterback. “That’s a guy you’ve got to be careful going after because his character, everything he does, is as high-quality as anyone I’ve ever had.”
